Objective Testing

Why Objective Testing?:

  • We use objective testing in an effort to hold everyone accountable, and it helps to measure progress and reward players for their hard work. This type of testing helps young players become independent because it encourages players to understand, plan, practice, and execute each test while being compliant with team rules. No one is bigger than the system and everyone needs to do their part for us to excel as a program.
  • Objective testing is a team rule and it will be used to determine which team a player is assigned, in addition to deciding lines during games, so it is very important for everyone to take them seriously.
  • This type of testing gives us insight as to where our team skill level is collectively, so we can set realistic expectations and goals that all players, parents, coaches, and board members can understand and support. To put things into perspective, last year we had only 5 players on the varsity team that could pass the wall ball test and we hope to improve this number this season. We all want to be the best and win however, it takes a group effort and support to achieve these goals as a team.
  • This type of testing is a great tool for players to prove to themselves and their teammates that they are compliant with team rules and are willing to earn their spot based on hard work and dedication. This will help players track their individual progress, and gives them an objective way to see they are improving throughout the season.
  • For players that want to play college lacrosse, these tests will start to prepare each player for how college coaches test their players. Prosper players must consistently follow these basic team rules to get a recommendation from the coaching staff. Otherwise, we do not believe you are ready for college lacrosse.
  • When a parent comes to the coaching staff and asks: "Why is my son on this team vs. that team?" or "why is he not playing more?" or "What can my son do to improve?" Our coaching staff will be able to give objective feedback to parents and players without making it personal. This allows the coaches to give individualized goals for each player to improve. We hope this helps build trust and accountability between parents, coaches, and players.
  • Note:  At the start of a season, it is ok if new players can not pass the test because we will use this info as a baseline so we can measure progress and development. As long as players are consistently working hard and using proper communication with coaches, that is all we care about.
  • Note: Please take your time and focus on doing each skill correctly. Rushing will only lead to more mistakes, bad habits, and a longer time. Off-field practice is a huge factor in becoming a better lacrosse player and stick skills will have big implications on playing time this season.
  • NOTE: Players, please remember it is your responsibility to understand each test, practice each test, challenge yourself, and submit your top times each month on time. It is YOUR responsibility as a player to make the necessary arrangements to complete these tests each month. It is not your parents' fault if these tests are not completed by the deadline. Every player who does not submit their top times to the objective testing database by the deadline, will result in 1 "SEVENTEEN" per person. This is definitely something we want to avoid, however, we will hold everyone accountable in order to keep improving as a program. "The only failure is the failure to prepare"
  • If you are a parent or player that thinks the wall ball test or objective testing is unnecessary or ineffective, we encourage all constructive feedback.

How it works:

Objective: Each month players need to practice and submit their objective test times via TEXT and ONLINE  on or before the 28th for the bench mark dates: Benchmark Dates: (September: 28th) (December: 28th) (January: 28th) (February: 28th) (March: 28th) (April: 28th)

Each month players should submit their times by doing two things:

  • Task #1: (After player films themselves performing wall-ball test)
    • TEXT: Players should text wall-ball video to coach DeBolt (315-719-8072)
    • Note: The wall-ball video is the only test that needs to be texted each month.
    • Note: If a player's video is too long to send via text that is ok! Players should text Coach DeBolt letting him know their time, and the video file is too large to send.
    • Note: Each wall-ball test is listed on the Prosper website tab (CLICK HERE). There are also several descriptive videos, with specifics on each and every stage of the workout. You can find these videos online under the "Wallball" tab. All coaches will be sure to educate players about wall-ball during practices to ensure everyone understands each skill and how the test works.
    • Note: Please note that these initial times are made as a baseline so we can measure their development. At this point in the season, it is OKAY if you can not pass the wall-ball test and it is OKAY to make mistakes! Please take your time, and focus on doing each skill correctly. Rushing will only lead to more mistakes and a longer time. Off-field practice is a huge factor in becoming a better lacrosse player and stick skills will have big implications on playing time this season.
    • Note: We ask that all players save the video as a reference going forward so players can track gradual skill development after each test. This is a great way to see improvement from the start of the season to the end of the season.
  • Task #2:
    • Submit wall-ball times online: Player should CLICK HERE to record objective text times online on or before the 28th of each month.
    • Note: On the registration the wall-ball is the only mandatory test we ask players to complete however, we encourage each player to challenge themselves in regards to the Wall-Ball, 40yard Dash, Push up Test, Sit-up test, and Mile Run Test. **All these tests will be used to pick teams and lines so it it important for all players to consistently practice each test.
